Faith is key...
Romans 4:14-16
So if you claim that God's promise is for those who obey God's law and
think they are "good enough" in God's sight, then you are saying that
faith is useless. And in that case, the promise is also meaningless.
But the law brings punishment on those who try to obey it. (The only
way to avoid breaking the law is to have no law to break!) So that's why
faith is the key! God's promise is given to us as a free gift. And we
are certain to receive it, whether or not we follow Jewish customs, if
we have faith like Abraham's. For Abraham is the father of all who
believe.
you know i had read the new testament many times...even just recently
i had read the entire new testament...and i have read most of the old
testament over my life time...but i have always focused on the new
testament...for one reason i could understand the new testament easier
than i could the old...recently i purchased a new Bible...it is a life
application Bible...i have obviously been reading it a lot the past
few months...it is very easy to read...
one of the features i like about this Bible is the stories about the
different people mentioned...i like the notes that talk about different
translations - where they mark a phrase in verses and then on the bottom
of the page they go into more detail like "Greek Translation would be
this instead of that"...and i like the reference section...overall it
is a great Bible...
anyway these verses mention "faith is the key"...which makes me ask about
the statement i hear from catholics a lot - "i can only hope at the end of
the day that i am good enough"...now i had discussions with different
catholics while i was in college and most if not all of them gave me some
form of that statement involving hope and being good enough...not that all
catholics believe this but it is a common theme...this is not the only set
of verses that mention faith being the key...is it hard to miss?...i think
i will do some research on that phrase...hmmm...
